Helping Children Cope is a fun, 2 hour art/story format for children aged 4-10 with a loved one facing cancer. Held in libraries, its focus is on coping with emotions and supporting conversations between caring adults and kids.
Do you know of a family struggling with cancer?
A diagnosis of cancer in the family affects every member. Yet children whose loved ones face this illness are often unsure how to express their feelings. And their caregivers need guidance as they discuss the topic with youngsters.
Helping Children Cope with a Loved One's Cancer (HCC)** is a free, small group program in Weymouth and Hingham that engages both adults and children (aged 4-10) in a 2-hour story and art session.
Families will take home resource materials so they can continue supportive conversations at home. Call 781-624-8919 for information, a schedule and locations, or to register.

Everyday isn't Valentine's Day in marriage with the responsibilities of children, jobs, family, and health concerns weighing on couples. Our own idiosyncratic habits and ways of coping with stress add another ingredient. How do we find the place, the time and the energy to maintain a connection, while keeping the passion and love alive that drew us from infatuation to marriage. This workshop will draw on my experiences in over the past 30 years working with couples and individuals on their marriages. We will look at what actions strengthen marriages and what behaviors can be fatal. Michael A. Ruben, LICSW, BCD is a psychotherapist who has practiced on the south shore at Brookside Counseling Associates. He has degrees from Oberlin College and Columbia University and has been working with couples and individuals for over 30 years. He has taught at Wheelock College in their Center for Parenting Studies and Family Studies program. He is happily married to his wife, Kelly Easton, an author of children and young adult books.

Call to order, approval of minutes of last meeting, review of assigned tasks
Jackass Park:
What is total expense number now? More to come? Can we reserve $ for possible replacements?
Bench: reset to desired angle; Betty Tower notified that Scott St. Pierre’s family can buy the bench from GCH, asked Betty for family name so GCH can deal directly with them. For STC: DONE
Garden Club message chiseling on boulder: DONE
Contacted Supt. of Operations at SS Country Club (Jay McGrail) re fertilizing grass, received quote of $720 for 4 applications, gave to Carol to take to GCH, ask for funding
Membership: Sean’s paperwork, other candidates for replacements
Future work and planning – long and short term goals and priorities:
Finish Main St. – what’s to do (besides stuff below?)
Hingham Harbor Development Committee led by Alan Perault – would welcome our involvement, especially an overall landscape design plan – can we do this? (They don’t have one, only the parts) Harbormaster Ken Corson said he’d provide a copy of the “Blue Plan” – maybe we can get an aerial map like we have of Main St. off the Internet – have copy of Master Plan for H. Harbor
Bare Cove needs Landscape Design guidelines too – no clue there at present, danger lurks
Other?
Masonic Lodge planting Queen Anne’s Corner islands - Shirley to call contact person (Joe DeNicola), Nick @ liquor store will help, do entirely if Masons don’t – whoever should get in touch with Jeff
Planning for 2 islands at Cracker Barrel – Sargent Cherry from JAP planted in wrong place, what about irrelevant shrubs? Good spot for Garden Club’s Arbor Day tree – can it be a Sycamore? –should be planted in narrower side of bed where there are no wires above, move Cherry to other, wider side where present wires will not be a problem to smaller tree.
Will DPW take 8 crabapples out of Glad Tidings Plain this spring? Will they replace them (or more) this spring? Has Sean (or anyone) decided what to plant as replacements? (Maple, Oak, Elm. Sycamore?)
Do planning for small park at Main/Cushing/Pleasant St. – include hardscape?
What shade trees will be planted in the rest of town (e.g., Memorial Park in Centre) - same?
Can we have a work party this spring to clean out 2 or 3 living brush heaps beside road near Wilder Hall?
Shirley asking John Riley how we can get permission to remove the Burning Bushes and a few other junk shrubs from an area across from Constitution Fire House on Main St. with utility boxes on it, since there is a very nice stone wall behind them, much better to look at than what’s there now. Any other ugly spots on Main St.?)
Wilder Hall re their re-landscaping, mainly removal of present shrubs – how can we get them to move on it?
Streetscape issue: Ask if we can get control of placement of town benches before they become clutter
Start looking for grants for tree money, Dept. of Agriculture, Fed. and MA; other
Things not to forget:
When to get VIP program (volunteer gardeners) organized – recruited from whole town via Hingham Journal (timing?)
STC logo – wait until we become a commission? (Is that likely?)
Any new business?
Adjournment
